Davidoff still interested in non-profit insurance company

The Regional District of Central Kootenay isn’t giving up its fight over rural fire insurance.

The problem surfaced when the Fire Underwriters Survey reclassified Glade as unprotected due to its cable ferry.

One company was found willing to provide fire insurance to the community at a premium.

But rural Castlegar director Andy Davidoff is still interested in starting a non-profit insurance company.

He says they’ve also talked to ICBC and the Municipal Insurance Authority.

He’s worried changes in guidelines could deal a severe blow to rural residents.
