Invasive lily found near Castlegar

The Central Kootenay Invasive Species Society is working on removing an invasive plant from Champion Ponds near Castlegar.

Program Coordinator Laurie Frankcom says the fragrant water lily infestation was discovered by a citizen walking by the ponds.

She says one plant can cover a fifteen foot diameter in five years which impacts the area’s biodiversity.

She adds they will return to the site to remove any remnants over the next few years.
