Around 500 extra workers are on site at the Zellstoff-Celgar Pulp Mill in Castlegar for the annual maintenance shut-down.
The 10-day , $10 million job will focus primarily on the inspection and repair of the recovery boiler, digester equipment and lime kiln.
The company is also making changes to ensure better quality wood chips are fed into the system and a new crane is being installed.
The re-start process for the mill is set to begin next Tuesday.
