Local students walk out in support of teachers

Several local students have been involved in a Friday morning walk-out in support of striking teachers.

Among them were students at Castlegar’s Stanley Humphries Secondary.

Wren -who is in grade 10 -organised the event and says the partial government lock-out is affecting students.

Kootenay Columbia and Arrow Lakes schools will be closed Monday as the rotating one-day strikes move into a second week.

Kootenay Lake and Boundary schools will be closed Thursday.

Teachers are asking for a 13.75% compensation increase over four years.

The province has offered 7.25% over six years.
