Local teachers hit the picket lines

Our local teachers are on the picket lines Tuesday for the one-day province-wide rotating strike action.

Kootenay Columbia teachers are outside schools in Trail and Castlegar.

Kirsten Apel who works at Stanley Humphries Secondary  rejects the government’s partial lock-out this week banning teachers from being at school 45 minutes before of after class.

Government is also clawing back wages by 10% during strike action.

Apel figures teachers have public sympathy for their actions based on the support she says they’ve been getting on the picket line.

A new research poll suggests 41% of British Columbians support them with 30% behind the government stance.

The province says wage and benefits demands are unaffordable.
