Big fine for Teck

A huge fine for Teck Metals Limited in Trail.

It has been fined $3.4 million after being found guilty of 13 accidental discharges of various metals substances into the Columbia River.

This follows fines for other spills in recent years.

Company Spokesman Richard Deane says incidents like these are simply unacceptable.

As part of the court proceedings Teck has agreed to spend $8 million, in part on a reservoir that will capture outfall pollution before it can get into the river.

These latest toxic spills happened between 2013 and 2105.
