Federal grant for pool means no extra taxes

The huge federal gas-tax grant announced for the Aquatic Centre upgrades in Nelson will have a major impact beyond this project.

$4.6 million, or 90% of the total cost of the big reno, is coming from the feds.

And as RDCK CAO Stuart Horn explains, that means they now have money to put into a long-term reserve fund for any future fixes or unforeseen things.

The ceiling collapse at the old pool in 2013 was an unexpected financial drain.

But this big gas tax grant means borrowing is no longer needed and there will be no extra taxes for residents to pay for the upgrade.
