Kalmikoff drug verdict expected

A local woman convicted of armed robbery is on trial for another matter.

Krista Kalmikoff is still awaiting her sentence after last year’s armed robbery convictions stemming from crimes commiteed in 2014.

But she’s now been in Nelson Court accused of drug possession.

She’s been in custody since that because it’s a breach of the bail conditions she was under throughout the whole armed robbery case.

In early January, Kalmikoff and two men she was with were involved in a head-on collision near Salmo.

As the driver she was not at fault, but when police arrived they found a small packet of cocaine at her feet.

She had just been registered as the owner of the vehicle.

Marijuana and a small digital weigh scale were also found in the trunk later.

She denies the possession charge.

One of the men in the car has now testified under the protection of the “evidence act” that the drugs were actually his.

The judge is expected to rule Wednesday afternoon.
