Could the Civic Theatre become a cultural media centre?

Once fully renovated Nelson’s Civic Theatre Movie House can become a cultural media centre.

That’s the bigger vision for the Society now they’ve commissioned a designer to create the three-screen cineplex.

Vice President Don Johnston says the city-owned asset can harness the benefits of fiber optic communications and become a portal to the world – in which Nelson and area shares.


The thinking is that during the day when movies aren’t shown the tri-plex could be used by a coalition of partners like the college, schools and non-profits.

That will also help generate grant money to make the project a reality.
