Lost skiers found in Whitewater backcountry

Another rescue in the 5-mile drainage area in the Whitewater back country…the third this season.

A personal location beacon signal was received Saturday evening .

At first light Sunday a helicopter was deployed although the group of four skiers couldn’t be spotted in the thick forest.

But Search Manager Scott Spencer says crews could smell smoke and the party was clearly well-prepared to be in the back country.

He says it’s vital skiers have equipment – like a compass- and take a bearing so they can find their way back out of the tricky valley.
