A shortage of volunteer firefighters could mean insurance hikes for residents in the rural Grand Forks area.
The North Fork area is currently under-served with only three volunteers. The Fire Underwriter’s Survey states they need at least ten.

Mckinnon says about forty to fifty people attended a public meeting last week to take in information and some were given applications to become a volunteer.
But he adds there has to be a strong level of commitment – perhaps as many as ten new people – not just names on a list.
