Pioneer's days are numbered: Rural Director

The days are numbered for Castlegar’s Pioneer Arena.

That’s the view of Area J Rural Director Gord Zaitsoff after he and fellow local Directors voted in favour of spending big money on another ice chiller for the ageing arena.


The decision to spend $120,000 on a replacement chiller keeps the Pioneer alive …for now.

But Zaitsoff notes the new equipment could be transferred as a future second ice surface at the Complex or as a replacement for the existing one there.

The public will be engaged on future recreation needs across the community including if a second ice surface is necessary.
