Curbside recycling changes in Nelson

Some changes to Nelson’s blue bag curbside pick up are coming later this month as part of the new province wide Multi-Material BC Recycling Program.

The City’s Chief Financial Officer explains it’s mostly good news with more items allowed to go in those bags.

But Colin McClure says plastic grocery bags are no longer allowed.

They’ll have to be taken to the transfer station or back to your main grocery store for recycling.

Nelson taxpayers should see a net gain from this new MMBC arrangement which could see funding for other local composting for example.

A new program is being rolled out city wide starting Monday, May 26 which will allow for the recycling of even more materials.
