Local boost to tackle invasive species

The BC government is taking the threat of invasive plants seriously .

So says Jennifer Vogel the program co-ordinator of the Central Kootenay Invasive Plant Committee following a $1.6 million funding injection for the province.

She says the Invasive Species Council of BC had been lobbying for more support.


Invasive plants like knotweed can disrupt natural ecosystems, reduce biodiversity, and increase soil erosion.

Money for our region will go towards public education and outreach regarding proper control and disposal of invasive plants.
