The bears are back, make your garbage inaccessible

Nelson’s WildsafeBC Coordinator is back on the beat and it seems like the timing couldn’t be better.

Local police say there have been several reports of black bears in the community and officers have already had to use non-lethal flash bangs to scare off one animal in Fairview after it had strewn several bags of garbage across a neighborhood.

Joanne Siderius says it’s unfortunate because bears have incredible memories and this one will most likely come back.

She also warns residents to keep an eye on their pets as coyotes have been reported stalking small animals.
