Castlegar looks to add destination tax

The City of Castlegar is looking to introduce a 2% hotel tax.

Council voted in favor of implementing the Accomadation Tax Request Bylaw – that will now go to the Province for approval.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tammy Verigin Burke says the biggest reason they got behind this is because it will greatly assist the City to market and promote itself.

72% of the total accommodators agreed to support the tax.

The City estimates it will generate over $50,000 annually for marketing and tourism.
