New Denver is no longer an attractive place for bears.
So says Mayor Ann Bunka as the village is the latest community in B.C. to earn Bear Smart status.
She says they’ve come a long way over the past eight years to reduce human-bear conflicts.
The community has replaced all public garbage containers with bear proof bins and started initiatives to ensure fruit trees are picked.
Six other communities across the province have earned Bear Smart status.
