Grand Forks seeks removal of councillor

The controversy over water meters in Grand Forks has taken a more serious twist.

The majority of city council has voted to take one of their own – Julia Butler -to the Supreme Court to have her removed from council for an alleged direct conflict of interest.

City Spokeswoman Sarah Winton says the council decision followed the public release Monday of the city’s own legal opinion regarding the conflict.

The city will not make any further comment as it is going before the court but Winton says no action at this stage is being taken regarding Mayor Konrad.

The conflict by Butler is believed to be about her previous public opposition as a citizen and business owner to the water meter program.

She remains a critic of it.
