Grand Forks’ ‘resident’ deer not going anywhere

The exploding numbers of deer in Grand Forks are not going anywhere.

Gary Smith – the chair of the city’s Deer Committee- says their data from collaring and monitoring shows the animals’ movements since November are restricted to just a 300 metre radius.

Smith figures this lends more credence to a cull being part of a wider population management plan.

The latest deer count is 166 but Smith says that extrapolates to over 300 animals.

He says Grand Forks could work with other communities to help drive the costs of a cull down.
