B-word ban could cost Kootenay Savings $100,000

The CEO of Kootenay Savings Credit Union is shaking his head at a ban on their use of the word “banking.”

The new superintendent of financial institutions is insisting that only banks can legally use that term.

But Brent Tremblay says it could cost Kootenay Savings up to $100,000 to make the necessary changes.

Tremblay says he’s hopeful that local MP Wayne Stetski’s appeal to the finance minister will succeed.
