Kootenay Savings plans one-day lockout Friday

Kootenay Savings plans to lock out employees on Friday at branches in Trail, Castlegar, Fruitvale, Salmo, South Slocan, and Kaslo.  Branches in Nakusp and New Denver are unaffected.

All employees are expected to return to their next scheduled shift on Saturday or Monday, and services will return to normal.

Contract talks between Kootenay Savings and the United Steelworkers broke down this week.

The union says it is beginning a work-to-rule campaign after rejecting what the company described as its final offer. Both parties are in legal strike/lockout positions.

“We feel our only recourse at this point is to initiate a one‐day lockout to persuade the union to return to negotiate a fair collective agreement, and to help us address our critical issues while minimizing the impact to our employees and members,” CEO Brent Tremblay said in a prepared statement.

To minimize disruption to members, Tremblay recommends they visit their branch in advance, or do their banking online, by phone, or by ATM.
