Castlegar city council seeks apology from by-election candidate

Members of Castlegar city council say accusations from a candidate are unfounded and she should apologize.

Cherryl MacLeod publicly mentioned she felt council is conducting important public business during in camera meetings.

Councilor Sue Heaton-Sherstobitoff says that’s not true and would be illegal.

Councilor Dan Rye says candidates shouldn’t try to alienate city staff.

In camera meetings generally deal with personnel, property and legal matters.

However, MacLeod stands by her comments.

She says she wonders how certain decisions made in closed meetings come to fruition.

MacLeod adds in camera agendas were made publicly available before 2012.

However she hasn’t presented any evidence to suggest any breach of protocols at these closed meetings.

She posted an apology online to anyone who was offended by her remarks at last week’s all candidate forum.
