“Cautious optimism” for SD 8 funding decisions

The Kootenay Lake School Board has chosen four schools to potentially receive government funding in hopes of keeping them open.

Winlaw, Jewett and Salmo Elementary as well as WE Graham will all be recommended to get a piece of the BC Government’s Rural Education Enhancement Fund.

Area D Director Aimee Watson hopes this means Jewett can remain a community hub for Meadow Creek.

She adds this process has really helped bring the community together.

PAC Chair Eden DuPont was pleased Einlaw was among the schools selected for potential funding.

The district expects to hear what schools will receive funding on June 30th.

Yahk Elementary and the Creston Education Centre were not named as potential recipients of this funding initiative.
