Funding for domestic violence prevention

The Ktunaxa/Kinbasket Child and Family Services Society has received funding to help combat issues around reducing domestic violence.

The $70, 000 dollars will help launch a new program, “In the Spirit of Peace” which will compliment the existing Equine facilitated therapy.

Executive Director Connie Santos says it’s been approached differently within each Ktunaxa community.

She explains the impact at the Lower Kootenay Band.

The funding is part of the BC Government’s $500, 000 commitment to help aboriginal women and children affected by domestic violence.

Santos says she expects the new program to be up and running by this spring.
