Creston mayor reacts to population estimates

Creston’s Mayor is taking a wait and see approach to the estimate from BC Stats which shows a big decline in the town’s population.

The numbers show an 11% decrease since 2011, or a loss of almost 600 residents.

Ron Toyota says the town of Creston relies on the federal census tabulation process.

Toyota says, it is key to look at the positives because if the population has decreased, it could translate to a sizable tax cut in policing costs.

This would reverse the increase in 2012 spurred by a population boost.

The Canada census numbers come out in 2017.
