Trial begins for armed robber’s alleged accomplice

The trial for the alleged accomplice of convicted serial armed robber Andrew Stevenson got underway in Nelson Court this week.

27 year old Krista Kalmikoff, who was in a relationship with Stevenson, is charged with several counts.

They include using a prohibited firearm and failing to stop during the police chase after the Nelson Credit Union was robbed, the final crime in a series of hold ups in the region.

Bill Metcalfe, a reporter with the Nelson Star, was in court for her cross-examination.

Metcalfe says Kalmikoff was asked why she drove from police in that high speed chase that led to the couple’s arrest in April last year?

She replied because she was “scared, panicked and overwhelmed.”
