Stickpin fire growth halted for third straight day

For the third straight day there has been no growth in the Stickpin wildfire burning south of the Boundary in Washington State.

The rain and high humidity is making a big difference as crews build containment lines. Mop-op operations are continuing as well.

However the US Fire Service is stressing that the wildfire risks are not over for the season. Measurements show that despite the recent rain the forest fuels show a 10% moisture content which is barely more than typical kiln-dried lumber.

The removal of danger trees in some parts of the fire area is now going ahead.

The fire remains 4.7 km from the Canadian border.
